Parliamentarians from Honduras join IPNEd and Foro-Dakar Honduras for a virtual discussion on education financing.

On 16 April 2021, parliamentarians from the National Congress of Honduras joined the International Parliamentary Network for Education (IPNEd) for a discussion on education financing and an introduction to the Network.

Parliamentarians were joined by Aminta Navarro, Coordinator of Foro-Dakar Honduras, Diputada Blanca Inés Osuna, IPNEd Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Mario Roberto Padilla Raudales, Foro Dakar Honduras, to consider the education financing gap in Honduras and across the world, and discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in exacerbating this crisis.

The meeting, coordinated by Foro-Dakar Honduras, provided an introduction to the Network for parliamentary champions for education in the Honduras parliament. Foro-Dakar, the Global Campaign for Education coalition in Honduras, has been working closely with parliamentarians to support their advocacy to protect and grow domestic financing for education in Honduras. Mario Roberto Padilla Raudales, of Foro-Dakar Honduras, advised parliamentarians on the state of the education financing gap and shared recommendations for securing the crucial growth in the education budget necessary to provide effective and sufficient financing for education.

Diputada Osuna, IPNEd Regional Representative, shared her experiences as both a former teacher and current parliamentarian in the Argentine Parliament, as well as encouraging parliamentarians to engage with the global opportunities provided by IPNEd to support their understanding of and advocacy for the crucial task of protecting and growing financing for education.

At the meeting’s close, parliamentarians were invited to join IPNEd by affirming their support for IPNEd’s Founding Declaration, with 9 parliamentarians affirming their support and agreeing to join the Network. The International Parliamentary Network for Education is delighted to welcome the newest members of the Network, and look forward to working with them further as the Network expands in the Latin America region.

Parliamentarians across the world are invited to join the Network by affirming their support for IPNEd’s Founding Declaration. MPs can affirm their support for the Declaration by contacting the IPNEd Secretariat at info@ipned.org or via the Join the Network website page.
